For the third year in a row we will be doing the December challenge: Run 1 mile a day, everyday, in the month of December. This year we added a twist making it 1 mile a day, plus, a total of 10 miles per week. When I decided to do this challenge three years ago I selfishly invited my husband, sister, and mom to participate so that on Christmas Day when I asked them to watch the three kids so I could go workout, it would be okay. Not that anyone would ever have a problem with it, but it made me feel less guilty. I'm proud to say we have all succesfully completed the challenge each year even with a trip to Thunderbay for New Year's.
This year I invited a couple clients to join in and this morning I was excited to hear that one of them started a side challenge with her family. Her Mom, Dad, sister, brother in law, husband and two young kids have challenged eachother to do 15 minutes of exercise everyday for the month of December. What a great way to get everyone involved and active during this time of year. Her kids have a little chart they check off each day they complete their exercise, which can be anything from tobagganing, skating, to dancing. I challenge you to create your own monthly challenge amongst your friends and family. Maybe it is just you, your spouse and kids but what a great way for the family to do something together. Surround yourself with people who have similar goals and ambitions and be selfish when it comes to your health and fitness.
